Teaching is an Adventure
"An expert at anything was once a beginner." ~ Helen Hayes
One day we read a story about kites and it happened to be a windy day... so we built kites! Instant Science class was observations and experiments on kite tail lengths and weights! ~ Kathleen Faust, teacher
Who am I?
Why Teach?
I grew up in the beautiful mountains of Pennsylvania. My childhood was filled with swimming, climbing trees, gazing at the clouds, hunting, fishing and playing flute and piano.
I love the outdoors and I spent many hours a day outside. My imagination fueled my playtime. Each day as I practiced my music, I was my own teacher...
By the age of 13, I knew that I was a musician. My diligence and practice took me on a career as a flutist with a BA in Music and MFA degree in Fine Arts. In my 20s I toured Europe and the US as a piccolo soloist.
Teaching has always been a part of who I am. I found out, as a freshman in college, that teaching takes me out of myself and enables me to find happiness in helping others. Connecting my life journey to others gives my life purpose and meaning.
I have taught private flute and piano, single subject middle school classes, continuing adult education, and elementary classroom music.
I currently throw my energy into my 2nd grade classroom at Resurrection Catholic School in Sunnyvale, California, my high school novice men rowers at NorCal Crew, and teaching adults how to scull, for BIAC on the San Francisco Bay.
